‘The Marine Industry is my make-up, it has built me and it has supported me. To all of those who have been a part of my career to date; I give thanks.’

With involvement in boats since youth, Marc Godden is stooped with passion for everything on the water. After school, he served an apprenticeship in Marine Engineering, which laid the path for everything up until this point.

Until their entrance into administration, he began his career at B. A. Peters’ shipyard in Chichester Marina, working within the Volvo Penta engineering department.

Marc says ‘I was lucky enough to have had great support from the management team, who recognised my potential from the outset. I attended numerous Volvo Penta Course at their then HQ in Watford to included Drives, Compact Engines, Electrical, 6-7L engines, D4-D6 engines, DPH-DPR drives etc. This early OEM training and daily work on new and used vessels from shipbuilders such as Fairline, Azimut, Rodman, Sealine, Bavaria and Island Packet really did give me an absolutely concrete foundation to my career.’

Shortly after, Marc was awarded ‘The Queen’s Silver Medal for Shipwright Apprentice Of The Year 2007’. Quickly moving into a new role with Golden Arrow Marine, his knowledge and experience built further, to improve the scope and technical nature of his abilities. This included extensive OEM training at M.A.N’s Nuremberg plant in Germany, and multiple training courses with ZF Transmissions, as well as in-house improvement training.

After seven years of valuable experience in engine overhauls, rebuilds, and installations, he moved back in to direct after-sales motor yacht support sector, fulfilling a demanding position in the after sales team at Princess Motor Yachts. All of this widened the knowledge Marc had of the industry and included further courses of study, such as visiting MTU in Germany.

Working with market leaders increased Marc’s attention to detail and highlighted his perfectionist nature, but also further fuelled the fire to work on something bigger.

Marc heads BGM and he plans to utilise every element of his broad history within the marine industry to ensure the company achieves its aim of being the market leader for vessel service and support on the South Coast.
